  Just awesome!

  I've received and installed the new XD Atlas rooftop tent and I have 3 nights in it so far, I'm very pleased! I had a few questions leading up to my purchase and the customer support was awesome - they always answered and had quick answers to my questions. There was limited info and reviews out there when I bought mine, so here are a few of my thoughts. Mounting tip: the instructions state 48" minimum cross bar spread (likely carried over from instructions from one of their clamshell models) but that is too wide - the brackets do not have enough track to grab onto at 48". I reduced the span to about 43" and that was perfect. Size/Comfort: I'm 6'6" (78") so my biggest concern was the length. The specs indicate the mattress/sleeping area is 81" long, which is spot on to the actual measurement. I usually sleep on my stomach/side with my arm under the pillow and fully stretched out, and this length is just enough for me. My roughly 48" tall child stayed in the tent with me, and we both had plenty of room. If it was me and my 5'9" wife, it might be a bit cozy width-wise but doable. I slept on the included memory foam mattress which is very dense and I found it to be quite comfortable. I may add another air mattress on top but the included mattress is definitely usable. The tent material, shell, cross bars, rubber seal, etc all feel very high quality and durable. The rubber seal around the lid covers everything inside when closed with no gaps - unlike some other tents that have an overhang with a gap. The included USB light lights up the tent and has 2 color temperatures and is dimmable. It has a standard USB-A cord to plug into a USB battery (battery pack not included). Opening the tent is easy and when extending the ladder, but sure to start extending the bottom rungs first - otherwise it won't lock properly. The included shoe bags are huge (fit my size 13 shoes and my 6 year old's shoes in one bag easily) and has clips on the top to keep it closed and mesh on the bottom for drainage. Closing the tent is also super easy, especially with the included bungee cords to hold in the tent material. Very minimal stuffing required, just make sure no material is in the hinges. You can leave your bedding inside which is nice - no problems closing it with my 20 degree sleeping bag and memory foam pillow. The cold weather liner (not installed, just folded up and laying on the mattress), shoe bags, etc were inside the tent upon arrival. There is a bungee inside the tent that I think is supposed to be used to pull in the sides when closing. After opening though, I think the panel got caught on this bungee inside the tent and ended up snapping of of the tiny clips on the bungee. No biggie though, the external bungee cord pulls in the material adequately. The heater port is easy to access and works as intended. It's actually on the left side as you look inside the tent, not on the right as the picture shows. Doesn't matter to me, but just FYI. I ran my diesel heater all night and we were toasty warm in the morning, no condensation. The black out material is indeed very black out. Totally dark in daylight. Opening the skylight panel and side windows brings in decent light though. The "no-see-um" mesh windows definitely prevent others from seeing in. It is heavy (about 190 lbs with all the accessories according to the specs, but that's still much less than the XD Everest). My wife and I couldn't lift it together onto my truck bed. 2 very strong people might be able to lift it, but I instead put eye bolts in the rafters in my garage and lifted the tent, and then lowered it onto my truck bed. Massive hassle the first time, but easier once it's off the ground. Top tip, use both a ratchet strap and lashing strap for raising and lowering the tent. Hard to explain the process, but you'll figure it out LOL. Overall, incredibly pleased so far and can't wait to get out for more camping!

  Atlas roof top ten.

  I just received my Atlas rooftop tent. Unpacked it and had to move my rack in a little bit to fit the foot print of this tent. Had my son help me set it up on my truck and bolt it down. Great build quality and easy to set up and take down. Can not wait for my first trip!!!! Much nicer and larger than my clam shell tent.
