  Great cargo box; could be PERFECT with mounting hardware

  I love my driver's side 270 LT awning from OVS. When it came time to add a cargo case to my Jeep Wrangler 4xe roof rack, I OVS and compared their offerings to ROAM, Pelican and other brands. Pelican cases required drilling and ripping out the nice foam inserts. ROAM cases were expensive, and that was BEFORE you bought their rack mounts (which may or may not have worked with your rack). I chose the OVS case because the cost to volume value for this longest version was best for my needs. I wanted to store 2 camp chairs, 1 camp table, some hiking poles and other things up top so that I had room for passengers and dogs in the Jeep. I knew that, like the Pelican cases, I'd either have to use ratchet straps to mount the box OR drill and use the Frontrunner Slimline II M8 rail slots. I chose the latter, finally got the nerve to drill 6 M8 compatible holes in the OVS box, and installed the box on the rack. I've had the box on the passenger side of the rack for about 3-4 months now, and it's stayed secured AND dry the whole time. I used rubber spacers AND large fender washers inside and outside of the case to mount to the rack, and there's been ZERO evidence of leaking or dust intrusion. The case is about 30lbs empty, and it had the secondary benefit of silencing some wind noise from the rack. I removed the handles and stored them to reduce rattling. If you want to secure the cargo box with a padlock, you'll need a long shank padlock. The biggest issue I had with this cargo box was the modifications. If most of these roof racks use M8 bolts and such for the tracks, it would be nice to include a drilling template and set of locking nuts / bolts with the box. Vs. spending 2+ hours testing bolt lengths in a hardware store trying to find the right setup.

  Great Gear Box

  Just finished a 2,500 mile trip with this on the roof the entire time. It handled well through rain storms, high win and intense heat. I used two ratchet straps to secure it to my roof rack along with a cable going from each lock and under the roof rack to prevent theft. This worked well for this trip but I'll try to come up with some other bracing system. This held all the gear I was hoping it would, 4 kids camping chairs, camp stove, MSR cooking pots, cutlery, fire starter kit, Biolite lamp, solar panel, and battery, and a bunch of other random stuff. The reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 stars is the design of the three latches. While the latches are super durable and feel really secure I hate the design. You have to use half of your finger pad on each of the corners to get it open. Not too bad when you have it on the ground, but when it is on the roof it makes it awkward and uncomfortable to open. I'll try to modify this some how for easier opening. But seems like OVS could extend the metal or add some rubber to make it easier to open. Overall, I love it. I'll be purchasing a second box soon. Can't believe how much cheaper this is compared to ROAM.

  Love These Things

  Purchased two of these after reading some skeptical reviews on amazon. The reviews discussed issues with the latches not being strong enough, I have not had this issue. The first one arrived and all 3 latches were aligned perfectly, the second one arrived and after mounting I noticed the first and third WERE a little loose. However all it takes is a phillips head screwdriver and a brain to adjust the 3 set screws and they work perfect now. To mount I drilled 4 holes used 4 rivnuts and bolted them with 1/4x20 hex bolts, spring lock washers, 1" washers and a rubber washer to isolate vibration and waterproof. No noise or water intrusion doing 75 through a squall on the freeway!

  OVS Storage boxes

  I've been comparing storage boxes for my rooftop rack. These are the best priced ones on the market with all the same features as higher priced ones. Why pay more for a smaller box sold by a different company. I'm super happy with these well constructed boxes and they will serve me well on my Overland adventures.
